I heard on NPR last week a story about how people are less likely to try and/or enjoy new things andexperiences as they age. The examples in the story were popular music, sushi and tongue piercings: if you don't try it by a certain age (around 35 for music, for instance), there's a 95 percent chanceyou never will.
I bring this up by way of possibly explaining my utter distaste for neck tattoos. Anywhere else on the body -- even the back of the neck -- and tattoos are fine. But put it on the side or *gasp* front of your neck, and I'm totally turned off.
Jeffrey from "Project Runway 3" is a particularly egregious case. Although the sentiment is wonderful (Harrison Detroit is his son's name, and the legend below it says "is the love of my life" in Italian), it's ridiculously huge and therefore even grosser than somebody's "Erica" or whatever on the side.
I think it's funny that I have such a visceral reaction to it, considering I'm OK with so many other body modifications etc. I think it's partly some practical thought in the back of my head, saying, "How are you gonna get a job with that thing on your neck?" Although I guess it won't matter too much once all the kids who are young enough for to be comfortable with neck tattoos are doing the hiring.
